ZESTY // quilt pattern review

Hi Quilting Pals, I neeeeed to tell you about the hottest new quilt pattern called Zesty.

This brand spanking new modern quilt pattern was just released by Eliane (@patchworkandpoodles) and it’s a totally fun way to try new skills, make cool shapes, and NOT have to sew any curves. (major quilting win!)

Before I get into all the juicy new quilt pattern specifics, here is a link to go get it for yourself. Eliane currently has a launch sale running on her site, but you need to hurry because it won’t last long.

This pattern comes in five different sizes: Baby, Throw, Twin, Full/Queen, and King. I personally did the baby size and really love how it all came together. As far as quilt patterns go, this one is super descriptive and helpful – from the specific cutting instructions to help you get the most out of your fabrics, to the diagrams for helping you trim your blocks, it’s like having a professional quilter hold your hand through the process.

This quilt pattern incorporates a quilt block shape that I had never tried before – the Half Rectangle Triangle. These HRTs are what help give the illusion of curves in the design without ever having to sew curves. They are a tiny bit trickier than Half Square Triangles, so if you’ve never tried HSTs before, I would suggest getting comfortable with HSTs before diving into HRTs.

For my specific quilt, I used some solid white fabric for my background and 4 Fat Quarters from FIGO Fabrics’ line “Mountain Meadow” by Pippa Shaw:

I decided that since it is a baby quilt, I should make it soft & cuddly, so I used bright aqua minky fabric for the backing. I did the quilting myself with my trusty walking foot!
