Connector Quilt: Fabric Variatons
Sometimes you find a really great pattern but want to make variations in the fabric requirements by using more or fewer different fabrics than the pattern calls for. I love how with quilting you can easily adjust a pattern’s specifics to meet your needs and even use fabrics from your stash instead of buying new!
The Connector Quilt pattern lends itself well to using variations in the fabric requirements, and in fact, I like to view the “requirements” as more of “suggestions”. Whether using more fabrics, fewer fabrics, or a TON of fabrics, this pattern is still a great choice! Be sure to check out how to make the quilt super scrappy on this blog post. In today’s post, I’m using yardage, but just differently from what the pattern instructions state.
Here are some examples of Connector Quilts using more than the 4 colors that the pattern calls for!.
Connector Quilt Using 6 Fabrics
On this version of the Connector Quilt, I simply split up color 3 into 3 different fabrics and kept the rest of them the same! I really like how it turns out! I like to think it looks a bit like a kaleidoscope!
For the Lap size, I split Color 3 Piece B into 5 Squares of Green and 8 squares of blue. Then I cut out Color 3 Pieces C & F in a different blue. I kept all the other colors as cuts as the pattern indicated.
The fabrics in this 6-Color quilt are all from Hawthorne Supply Co. Here are links so you can grab some for yourself:
- Backing: Cape Town Gardens in Multi
- Color 1: Stardust in Shell
- Color 2: Little Skipping Stones in Grapefruit
- Color 3: Stitched in Indigo
- Color 3: Kaleidoscope in Blue Jay
- Color 3: Radiate in Agate
- Color 4: Wanderer in Begonia
- Binding: Stitched in Indigo
Another Idea: 2-Color Connector Quilt
Alternatively, you could make this a 2-color quilt by simply combining Colors 2, 3, and 4 in the pattern. I didn’t get the chance to actually make one yet, but if you make one, I would love to see it! Here are some photos for inspiration!
