Quick & Simple Baby Boy Quilt: Paradigm Quilt Pattern
I’d like to introduce you to this easy & modern baby boy quilt pattern called the Paradigm quilt pattern. I particularly like that how Paradigm works really well as a modern baby boy quilt pattern. The clean straight lines of the modern geometric quilt make for a bit more masculine and boy-friendly quilt. Another bonus of the single block quilt is that it’s a super easy quilt pattern to make!
When it comes to modern quilt designs, my favorites always feature a bit of a nod to traditional shapes. I’m not sure why it is, but I really do have an affinity for the classic quilt designs in patchwork. The traditional designs have been around for ages. Of course, I also love to give those traditional quilt patterns some spice by turning them into a new modern quilt pattern, like the Paradigm quilt pattern.

Modern Geometric Quilt Pattern
The geometry involved in the Paradigm quilt pattern is actually a lot of fun, and really neat if you’re a bit of a math geek! (If you’re not into the math – thats ok too because the pattern will provide all the instructions & math done for you!)
This easy quilt pattern features one giant quilt block composed of a few key units or components. One of the main components of the Paradigm pattern involves a dramatic Economy Quilt Block right at the center of it. An Economy Quilt Block is a classic Quilt block that was very popular about a hundred years ago! I love bringing in old traditional designs in a unique modern way!
Another component you’ll see in the Paradigm quilt pattern is the flying geese unit. Flying Geese quilt blocks are designs like 2 half square triangles placed side by side, but it eliminates the center seam! They can be constructed in a variety of different methods, but this quilt pattern uses the 4-at-a-time no waste method to make flying geese.

This modern baby boy quilt features blender fabrics from Connecting Threads. Blenders are neat and some of my favorite quilting cotton fabrics to work with for modern quilting. Blenders are fabric basics that have a small simple design on them. Blenders read like solids from afar but bring an extra layer of texture to your quilting designs.

You might already know this about me, but I really love backing my baby quilts with minky fabric! Specifically, I adore the Shannon Fabrics Cuddle minky! I chose to back this modern baby quilt with Shannon Fabrics Cuddle in Saltwater. The minky fabric quilt back on this modern baby boy quilt makes it super cozy and cuddly!
Do you use quilt batting when backing a quilt with minky fabric?
I get asked a lot if I use quilt batting and also what kind of batting to use! This is a great question! I do prefer using batting! I like a rather thin, drapey, low loft batting when backing a quilt with Cuddle fabric. My personal favorite batting is Quilter’s Dream Orient which is a bamboo blend. Fast & Simple Quilt Design
A modern big block quilt pattern such as Paradigm is a great quilt pattern for beginners. Paradigm comes together very fast in any size due to the simplicity and scaled up design. You could easily make this modern baby quilt in a weekend from start to finish, making it a great weekend quilting project.
